The PP, whose participation was key to suppressing the Guillem Agulló awards, now opens the door to recovering these awards that, since 2016, the Valencian Parliament has awarded to recognize those people and initiatives that fight against racism, xenophobia and hate crimes . “It seems good to us to recover the awards for the boy, the parents and the groups,” explained this Wednesday the PP spokesperson in Les Corts, Miguel Barrachina.
However, the popular leader has admitted that resuming these awards cannot be done, as was done two terms ago, with an institutional declaration, since Vox has already shown its refusal to give awards “to a man who, according to some media, was a left-wing independentist.” Along these lines, the ombudsman of the ultra formation, José María Llanos, has regretted that his government partners “are subject to the left” and are committed to recovering these recognitions. “They will have to explain it,” Llanos added.
Therefore, we will have to see how the request can be reformulated; most likely in the form of a Non-Law Proposition that urges the Les Corts Board to restore the awards. Compromís has pointed out the possibility of making this request and the PP has pointed out that if the text follows the parameters of the 2016 declaration, it will have no problems voting in favor of it.
The repositioning of the PP comes hours after the president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, declared on TV3 that “Guillem Agulló suffered an unpresentable homicide by a fascist, and we condemn him.”
The night before, his right-hand man and general secretary of the PPCV, Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, had proposed that the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces become the meeting point to resume the consensus of the Guillem Agulló Awards as recognition of entities and people who fight against hate crimes in the Valencian Community.
