The political map that can be drawn on 12-M appears complicated according to the surveys and possible alliances. Although it seems difficult for the PP to win majorities, this hypothesis has been put on the table again today in a colloquium held at the Círculo Ecuestre. The candidate, Alejandro Fernández, has initially distanced himself from Salvador Illa, understanding that the socialist leader seeks to compromise with the independence movement and has predicted that it will end up devouring him, while what the PP wants is to liquidate the process.
Any hypothesis of a pact – he was asked if he could support an investiture of the PSC, together with Comuns – must go through “deeds and not words,” Fernández pointed out. That is, “the break with Pedro Sánchez and Carles Puigdemont”, and therefore, the agreements in Congress.
The PP candidate has also analyzed the movement of the President of the Government, after five days of reflection, and has equated it with the period in which the Parliament debated the disconnection laws (2017), which established the “absolute power” of the president, on “the legislative and judicial powers.” Puigdemont was turned into a “leader,” he said, just as Sánchez wants to try now. In the analysis of these days, he has considered that Sánchez has “backfired”, understanding that the support received at the Ferraz demonstration was less than expected by the PSOE.
Fernández, already looking towards general elections, has not seen a viable agreement between Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Junts either. The PP must focus on “winning with a solid majority,” he said.
In a discussion moderated by journalist Ricardo Fernández Deu, he warned about the “populist” drift of both the governments of Spain and Catalonia, pointing out that, as has happened in Argentina, a few more years in this situation could lead to ” total decay.”
And when asked about regional financing, he opted for an alliance with the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands to propose a new model in the context of a general pact with all the autonomies.
