The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia has approved this Monday the award to the platform led by Startup Valencia of the old Maritime Station, a space that will become a new technological hub and that will host events and coworking space under The name of the Terminal.
The resolution proposal regarding the request initiated by the Valencia Innovation District for granting supposes an administrative concession for a period of 35 years, extendable for another 15, for the occupation of port public domain assets for the installation in this space of the Marina de València.
After the approval, Startup Valencia has expressed its satisfaction with the award, “after years of administrative obstacles that culminated in a favorable final ruling,” they recall. The granting procedure was initiated in 2017 before the Valencia 2007 Consortium and had already accumulated six years of waiting with the facilities in disuse, as Startup Valencia has repeatedly pointed out.
This project, led by Startup Valencia, provides for the creation of a technology hub that will involve an investment of more than three million euros and will house more than 500 highly-qualified jobs.
As the president of Startup Valencia, Juan Luis Hortelano, explained, “this last procedure leaves the way clear for the international technology hub La Terminal to finally become a reality.” “The works will begin in the next few days and we hope that it can be in operation during the last quarter of 2023,” he pointed out.
For Nacho Mas, CEO of Startup Valencia, the unlocking of the project is good news for the Valencian innovative ecosystem. “This is the boost that our ecosystem needs to scale internationally and consolidate its position as a benchmark for technological entrepreneurship in southern Europe and a business bridge for startups and investors from all over the world.”
The space that the Terminal will occupy has more than 5,000 square meters and is located next to the Clock Building. It is estimated that more than 5,000 innovation and technology professionals will participate annually in training and networking activities and events, as well as in open innovation programs that corporations and institutions develop in this technology hub.
