For the first time, the Port of Barcelona will organize open days to bring the space closer to citizens. It will be from May 24 to 26, coinciding with European Maritime Day, and the purpose “is to increase knowledge of the main infrastructure of Catalonia,” said the president of the Port, Lluís Salvadó, this Monday at the presentation of the event.
During the three days there will be visits by bus, by sea and on foot, there are also recreational and informative activities planned. Salvadó has stated that each year they receive about 25 million visitors, but the vast majority “only know 80 of the 1,140 hectares that make up the Port of Barcelona”, in reference to Port Vell. The event expects to receive around 16,000 people.
The open days are divided into three axes: Discover the Port, Get to know the Port and Live the Port. There will be three bus routes: departures from the Rodalies del Prat del Llobregat station, the Marina del Prat Vermell neighborhood and the Barcelona pier. Also trips with swallows and visits on foot, among which there will be dramatized routes through the Portal de la Pau.
There are also scheduled workshops, talks and a seafood market in Port Vell, with fifteen shops so you can taste seafood. All of this will be free, but to participate in the visits it will be necessary to make a prior reservation with the payment of one euro to guarantee attendance.
The slogan of this initiative is Adéntrate en el Port and Salvadó has indicated that “for security reasons” there will be no access to several points of this location.
The president of the Port of Barcelona has indicated that the event also seeks to ensure that “citizens can see the improvements” that are being made in order to host the 37th edition of the America’s Cup and has emphasized that it is a activity for the local public.
