Almost a year has passed since the Pons family decided to withdraw from Circutor and leave the future of the company in the hands of the Comellas family, founded in 1973 in Terrassa with the aim of addressing the energy efficiency market.
The transaction, the price of which is confidential, contemplated that the Pons family would keep 100% of three of the ten companies that belonged to the Circutor holding company: Vector Motor Control (Santa Perpètua de Mogoda) and Saci (Madrid), both specialized in energy efficiency management, and Zez Silko (Czech Republic), dedicated to manufacturing energy power devices.
Since the transaction was closed, the three businesses have become part of another holding company, The Yellow Nest, which is controlled by Carles and Bernat Pons, sons of Circutor co-founder Ramon Pons.
“Our father instilled in us the entrepreneurial spirit and we have always wanted to fly free,” say the owners of the holding company, which controls three more companies: km0, a renewable energy project consultant, Nnergix, renewable energy management software, and Smilics, which manufactures sensors to control energy expenditure in the home. All companies work for other companies in the world of energy and distribution.
“Adding the activity of the six businesses, we employ 410 people and have a turnover of 56 million euros, which represents an increase of 20% compared to 2021”, commented the Pons brothers, who this year expect to maintain the growth rate of 20% .
In its expansion plan, the group plans to invest around 10 million euros in expanding some of its plant facilities. In addition, it wants to allocate between 5 and 6 million euros to the acquisition of competitors. “We are looking for opportunities in the United States and Germany, countries where we do not yet operate but would like to enter,” they indicate. The company already has a strong international presence. 60% of its income comes from abroad: from the Scandinavian countries, Italy and South America.
The growth of the business will be carried out with its own resources – gross profit is 15% – and bank resources. “We rule out the entry of financial partners. After separating them from Ciructor, we prefer to have 100% ownership”, comment the business owners from their state-of-the-art headquarters. The building –opened in 2021 after an investment of 3.3 million– is energy efficient and wants to recover Terrassa’s industrial past, when factories produced energy with steam machines. Now, The Yellow Nest achieves this by harnessing geothermal and solar energy.
