The investigative court 1 of Reus has summoned the eleven police officers investigated for police action in the arrest of Eugen Marin Sabau, known as the Tarragona gunman, to testify on December 14, 2021.

Those investigated will testify on November 6 and 7, according to the proceedings.

The instructor summoned, as witnesses, the head of the Mossos d’Esquadra investigation area, Francesc Moragues, and four other agents. His statement will be on November 21, when two doctors from the Bellvitge hospital and a doctor from Vall d’Hebron will also testify by videoconference.

The judicial investigation began last November following a complaint from Sabau’s sister.

The man known as the Tarragona gunman entered the headquarters of the Securitas company in Tarragona, where he had worked, on December 14, 2021.

The assailant shot at three of his former colleagues, wounding them. After perpetrating the attack and his escape by car, the Mossos d’Esquadra organized a device to catch him.

Two plainclothes officers identified him at a roundabout in Reus and there was an exchange of shots. As a result of the shooting, an agent was wounded by a gunshot in the arm. Sabau was able to flee and barricaded himself outside a nearby farmhouse, where the Special Intervention Group (GEI) finally shot him down.

His sister considers that the police action was “disproportionate.” The man was seriously injured by a gunshot and ended up with tetraplegia. On August 23, 2022 he was euthanized. His lawyer, Gerard Amigó, celebrated that the investigating judge had accepted all the statements of the police and the proposed testimonies.
