The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested the suspect who stabbed a German tourist in Empuriabrava on July 8. The person arrested is a 25-year-old man who is held responsible for an alleged crime of attempted murder.

The attack began after the robbery in a Camper van in which the victim was traveling along with two other friends who were spending a few days on vacation in Empuriabrava, a tourist town in the Alt Empordà.

Among the stolen objects, the thieves took a fanny pack containing a mobile phone with a geolocation device that allowed the victim to discover that the device was in Pi de Empuriabrava street.

The injured man went with his friends to this location in order to recover his belongings. Upon reaching the street marked by the geolocator, they met a group of men and one of them was wearing the stolen fanny pack.

The tourist asked him to return it, but he refused. This is how a struggle began that ended with an assault on the victim’s abdomen with a knife. The man was taken to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona where he underwent emergency surgery.

The investigation opened by the Mossos d’Esquadra concluded this Tuesday with the arrest of the alleged attacker. The arrested person has a criminal record.
