Today I am in a small town in La Segarra, called Granyena de Segarra, located just nine minutes from the capital of the region. There is peace here, as can be seen in these photographs in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos.
This feeling of calm is given thanks to its extensive agricultural areas. A territory dominated by olive groves, green fields, some almond trees… only with some lightly traveled roads.
And although it is said that in this area there is nothing to do or see, for me it is an excellent place to enjoy a good day, among the fields or also to discover the town.
A large part of the houses in Granyena de Segarra are made of stone, which gives it a very beautiful aesthetic touch and, in addition, also keeps the cold inside the houses in summer and the other way around in winter.
In addition to being made of stone, if we walk next to the houses, we can also see the detail that some of them have the names of the families that live or lived there. So this place is much more than fog in winter, heat in summer.
This is a place to walk while you discover those lost hermitages, a place where you can enjoy that true calm and silence, plus when you meet people from the town, they will make you feel at home.
As if that were not enough, you can also see the traces of history, such as the civil war, since you will discover some machine gun nests. And if we go back further in time we can see some old castle. Without a doubt, La Segarra is a place to disconnect to reconnect.
