The Paeria of Lleida (the city council) has paralyzed the suppression of the door-to-door garbage collection system in the neighborhoods of Balàfia and Pardinyes following an appeal presented by the municipal group of the Commune of Lleida against the agreement of the plenary of March that approved returning to the container islands.
The mayor of the city, Fèlix Larrosa, explained this Tuesday that the stoppage is due to “a criterion of prudence” and that the City Council is waiting for the Catalan Public Sector Contracts Tribunal to pronounce itself.
Larrosa has reproached the Comú for putting a spanner in the works and for “wanting to win in court what it lost at the polls.” For its part, the party celebrates the postponement of the measure and says that the municipal government’s decision to withdraw it goes against the fight against climate change.
“The municipal government’s decision to withdraw door-to-door is a populist decision, which responds solely to political will. But if they must postpone the decision it is because they have not been able to dismiss our appeal, because the modification of the contract is contrary to the law , since it is not aligned with the real needs or with the imperatives of the fight against climate change », stated the councilor of the Comú of Lleida, Laura Bergés.
