In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can contemplate a beautiful view from the plane, flying over the historic Olympic Canal of Castelldefels. In the background, we see the city, surrounded by the Garraf massif.
The canal was created for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, when it was the venue for the canoeing competitions. But, currently, it is a sports complex that offers visitors numerous activities. In addition, it is also a refuge for turtles, ducks, cranes and other birds.
Apart from all the modalities that can be practiced in the water, such as rowing, canoeing, kayaking, boating, water skiing, inflatable water park for children, the Canal Olímpic de Castelldefels has a well-equipped gym.
It has a sheet of water 1,250 meters long by 130 meters wide and 4 meters deep, with a closed circuit 2,700 meters long, suitable for walking, skating, running or cycling. In the facilities we will also find a summer pool and a Pitch golf course
The channel is artificial and was built by excavating some old Llobregat marshes. As a curious fact, it is worth mentioning that in these excavations a medieval boat was discovered, which today is preserved in the Museu Marítim de Barcelona.
