The bedbug infestation that has occurred in some European capitals such as Paris has been one of the most talked about topics on social networks in recent months. As the famous saying goes, ‘When you see your neighbor’s beard peeling, put your own to soak’, so, indeed, this plague has already reached some parts of Spain, including Catalonia. The National Association of Environmental Health Companies has already warned in a statement that it is a problem that will end up affecting all of Europe. Twitter user Jordi Casanovas has encountered precisely this, who has explained his experience with these insects in the program Version RAC1 by Toni Clapés.

As Casanovas explained in the aforementioned program, he spent more than 20 hours over a week exterminating these small insects. And the most striking thing is that he has only done it in one room. The man explained in the radio program that they noticed the first bites at the end of August, but his family did not give it any importance. “They appeared to us when we spent the weekend in Torroella, then we returned to the first residence and they disappeared,” explains Jordi, about how it all started.

After an exhaustive internet search, the family realized that they could be bedbugs. “They make big bites, at one point I had more than 50,” explains Casanovas. “They are very itchy. I had marks that went from my neck and my entire back to my legs and below my knee,” he added. A story that he has also told in his own profile on X, formerly Twitter, where dozens of users have commiserated about his situation.

As he says, after realizing what an insect it was, he decided to go to a drugstore in Badalona and there they gave him the solution to put an end to the bedbug infestation in his second home. First, he explains, she had to vacuum the mattress and sofa. Then, heat had to be applied, with a hair dryer, for example, so that the insect came to light. And, thirdly, he had to apply the insecticide. It sounds like an easy task, but it wasn’t. The piece of furniture that was most affected was her bed.

“As soon as we apply the insecticide, the bedbugs start to come out,” Jordi remembers. After days of repeating the steps they recommended, they thought about removing the slats from the bed base. He explains that they found live and dead bedbugs and eggs there. Finally, they decided to dismantle it, fumigate it and take it to a clean point. “All the clothes in the bedroom closet are either thrown away or washed at 60 degrees,” he explains. “Also the blankets and the duvets,” he says.

The clothes they wear, as soon as they leave fumigation, must also be washed, so it is a constant cleaning task, and the time invested is a lot. “One of the days, when I left there, I put the clothes in the washing machine and when I was in the shower there was a bedbug crawling up my leg,” recalls Casanovas, visibly distressed. “You enter a phase of total paranoia,” he says. Despite all attempts to eliminate the pest in his residence, Jordi assures that they still suffer from the presence of these insects, and they regret that they will have to seek the help of a specialized company.
