La Seu Vella de Lleida has hosted the presentation of Fars de Ponent, a new tourist route that proposes to discover or rediscover some of the most emblematic bell towers and watchtowers in the lands of Ponent.
The initiative was launched with 9 lighthouses: the bell towers of Sey Vella de Lleida, Santa Maria de Linyola, Sant Miquel d’Os de Balaguer, Santa Maria de Balaguer, the Assumption of Mary de les Borges Blanques, Sant Bartomeu de Bellpuig , Santa Maria de l’Alba de TÃ rrega, Santa Maria de Cervera and the Pilar d’Almenara d’Agramunt. A passport has been created that visitors must stamp at each point.
The Fars de Ponent project seeks to position the regions of the Lleida plain in the tourism and heritage field and influence the improvement of the “Ponent†brand. During this 2023, the project will be formalized with the creation of an association of municipalities and new “viewpoints” will be proposed to be incorporated, provided they have a tower, a bell tower or a gazebo enabled for the visit.
The route through the 9 lighthouses is in no specific order and can be done within a year. Even so, it is not recommended to do it in one day. The acting councilor for culture of the Lleida City Council, Jaume Rutllant, has revealed that the new route is an element of territorial cohesion and reinforcement of the “Ponent” brand.
In order to help the route, a passport has been created where visits must be stamped at each reference point. On the first visit to one of the 9 towers, tourists will receive a passport where there is a page dedicated to each tower, pages where the monument is explained, but in which a sticker is missing to be collected in each tower. This particular seal completes the page, as explained by the acting mayor of Linyola and promoter of the project, Àlex Mases.
The Fars de Ponent project was born as a pilot phase vocation and is open to more populations interested in joining the initiative. In addition, the project also wants to promote public-private cooperation, with the recruitment of collaborating establishments and companies and will encourage the creation of activities, both ephemeral and permanent, to be carried out in each of the towns to increase their tourist attraction.
The presentation held in the Seu Vella de Lleida was attended by the acting mayors of the 9 Fars de Ponent towns: Linyola, Os de Balaguer, Balaguer, Les Borges Blanques, Bellpuig, TÃ rrega, Cervera and Agramunt, the councilor for culture of the PaerÃa de Lleida, Jaume Rutllant and the director of the Consorcio de La Seu Vella, Joan Baigol.
