There is a very popular route to Lake Malniu, which not only brings you closer to a wonderful landscape, but is so simple that it can be done without problems with children, despite being at more than 2,000 meters of altitude.

As a reference, the Malniu refuge is located at the foot of Puigpedrós, the highest peak in Catalan Cerdanya, and within the Cerdanya – Alt Urgell National Reserve, in the municipality of Meranges.

It is a wooded area, with sections where there are large block granite pans. In this report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see some samples of the beauty of the landscape and the richness of its flora.

Maranges is located on the border with France. As a curiosity, it must be taken into account that, with its 1539 meters of altitude, it is the capital of the highest municipality in Catalonia.

First you have to take the N-260 and, in the town of Ger, take the detour to Meranges. Pass the village and follow the forest track to the refuge (10 km).

Once at the refuge, we must take a path that comes out to the right, marked with yellow and white marks (PR) and numbered 119.

The trail runs through a thick forest with little unevenness and in just half an hour it will leave us on the shore of the lake (2138 meters). The difficulty is therefore low and suitable for all ages.
