The latest incidents in the La Punta neighborhood that have forced residents to self-organize into citizen patrols to monitor streets where houses are widely dispersed from one another, have forced the National Police to act.

The Government delegation in the Valencian Community reported this Friday that since April 10, agents have deployed a security and crime prevention device in the neighborhood in response to the latest incidents that have occurred. With these police actions, the same sources explain in a statement, the area is provided with greater security, with the intention of maintaining it and, where appropriate, reestablishing it.

Thus, they continue, on the night of April 10, an extensive police deployment began, made up of a multitude of units, both uniformed and plainclothes, which has resulted in the arrest of six people. In addition, 373 people have been identified, 135 vehicles have been inspected, 23 reports were drawn up for possession of narcotic substances, 26 for bladed weapons, and another two for different infractions.

Different police units have participated in the operation, such as the Response Operational Group (GOR) of the Ruzafa and Maritim police stations, the Immediate Crime Response Group (GRIC), the Police Intervention Unit (UIP), the of Prevention and Reaction (UPR), the Citizen Assistance Group (GAC), also collaborating with the Air Media service and the Cavalry Unit.

In addition to these units, in charge of the investigations is the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade, which maintains an open line of investigation which is progressing favorably.

Precisely on Thursday, the spokesperson for Compromís in the City Council, Papi Robes, denounced the situation in the neighborhood: “What are you waiting for? That residents have to self-organize and go out on armed patrol at night is an image more typical of the Far West than of a European city. Since María José Catalá has been here, crime has skyrocketed in the city and she is missing, she is a weak mayor and her position is great for her.”
