Miguel Tellado, vice president of organization of the PP, expressed his desire for Pedro Sánchez to leave the country stuffed in a trunk. It is one more step in a spiral that began years ago and that mixes delusions, lies, Celtiberian bile and prototypes of future urban legends. In 2017, when Carles Puigdemont decided to leave the country to settle in Belgium, many media outlets described his decision as an escape and highlighted his extravagant logistics. They say, for example, that the president has left his house hiding inside the trunk of his wife Marcela Topor’s car. The power of the image is contagious. The myth of the trunk is imposed as one of those truths that are easier to accept than to contrast. Then it ends up knowing that Puigdemont was not inside the trunk but rather that he traveled “crouching” in the back seat.

The nuance does not affect the grotesque dimension of a gesture that, despite efforts at precision, remains fossilized by political interest. Cinephile databases claim that the famous trunk shot from the movies (focusing from inside the trunk) was born in 1948 in Order: All Out. Since it was impossible to put an operator and a camera in the trunk while preserving an effective panoramic view, a false trunk was made that maintained the proportions of the shot without torturing anyone. The shot, then, is artificial, as is the version that places Puigdemont in a space that, in the real world of political tragedies, does recall the murder of Aldo Moro (extraordinarily narrated in the series Exterior noche, which can be seen in Filmin).

The idea of ??the trunk connects with the definition of “fugitive,” which also does not respond to any legal rigor, but works in the territory of declarative demagoguery and the state lies that continue to be exchanged by each other. Out of political empathy, the other day I went to the parking lot with the intention of getting into the trunk of the car and seeing what not only the real Puigdemont but the legendary Puigdemont must have felt. To begin with, I removed some items that might bother me (a bottle of water, a box of tissues). At first glance, it seemed to me that obesity and being in your sixties are not the best ingredients for practicing such contortions. Despite everything, I approached and, just as I made the gesture of raising my right leg and tilting my back and hip, I noticed, in my lower back, a sciatic stab that paralyzed me (I have made an appointment with the physiotherapist). Conclusion: taking into account the anatomy of Pedro Sánchez, more than a trunk they will need a container to accommodate his 1.90 m and 94 kg and the tons of confusion and concern that he has generated, no longer among his rabid enemies, but among many of the citizens who voted for him.
