The 27 municipalities of the Vega Baja region of Alicante will test this Thursday the ES-Alert method, a system of massive messages that is sent to the entire population residing in a specific area in case of emergency situations or natural disasters.

The Security and Emergency Response Agency and the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior will carry out this test in a region hit a little over three years ago by a Dana that completely flooded the area.

Thus, and within the framework of this test, the people affected by the emergency will hear a high-pitched sound on their mobile that will in turn display a warning text and will only stop when the user of the terminal has confirmed its reading.

The drill is carried out in the Vega Baja because it is an area where heavy rains and floods periodically occur. A notice will be sent to the population simulating a flood alert with instructions for action and self-protection to minimize the risk in a real case.

On this occasion, and due to the high percentage of foreign population residing in the region, the messages will be conveyed in both Spanish and English.
