The mission of MEPs that investigates espionage through Pegasus will be somewhat altered. According to sources in the lower house, the Congressional Defense Committee has summoned the European Parliament committee to readjust the visit, since Tuesday, March 21, the day scheduled for the appointments, coincides with Vox’s motion of no confidence Pedro Sanchez.

In any case, and despite the fact that Congress initially considered the idea of ??requesting that a new date be set, it was finally proposed to take advantage of the plenary breaks so that the MEPs could meet with Meritxell Batet and deputies.

However, the Congress is a minimal part of the visits and meetings that the European commission of Pegasus has on the agenda. Thus, they propose to meet with Supreme Court judges, such as Pablo Llarena, with the director of the CNI, Esperanza Casteleiro, and his predecessor in office, Paz Esteba, as well as members of the Government, among many others.

In addition, the European Parliament has invited the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, to see him in Madrid on the 21st to provide his point of view on Catalangate as a spy. Meritxell Serret and Ernest Maragall are also on the list.

Likewise, the MEPs requested to meet that same day with the Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo. Earlier, for Monday, despite being a holiday in Madrid, they scheduled meetings with Pedro Sánchez and several ministers: Félix Bolaños, Margarita Robles, Fernando Grande-Marlaska and José Manuel Albares. Some of these appointments are pending confirmation and are subject to change.

The list of European deputies is made up of the president of the commission, the Dutch Jeroen Lenaers, along with Juan Ignacio Zoido and Vladimír Bilcik, all three from the European People’s Party; Hannes Heide and Ibán García del Blanco from the socialist groups; Sophia In’t Veld and Róza Thun, from Renew Europe; Diana Riba, MP for the Greens/European Free Alliance; Anne-Sophie Pelletier, from The Left; Jorge Buxadé, from the conservative group, and Gilles Lebreton from Identity and Democracy.

A few days ago, the vice-president of Parliament, Alba Vergés, received a positive response by letter to her request for a Catalan delegation from the Pegasus commission of the Catalan Chamber to meet with the MEPs. The appointment was originally scheduled also in Madrid, on March 21, so that they can present the points of view that are exposed in the own investigation commission.

Junts has also contacted the members of the commission. It has been done by Míriam Nogueras, who regrets that Congress has not yet informed the deputies of the planned visit in Congress. The JxCat spokeswoman offers to meet them: “We will adapt our agenda to your needs, due to the relevance of the mission you are entrusted with.”
