After the last rains of this summer, the Ter river had a good flow of water and with earth color, as can be seen in these images in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
In Roda de Ter I photographed this beautiful specimen of common night heron in the waterfall of the lock. The surprise was that, when trying to photograph it, this big fish, a catfish, appeared under the lock.
By operating the camera with manual focus, I had time to record the scene on video. Besides, the night heron looked at the catfish and surely saw that it was too big.
The common night heron is known as “martinet de nit”, due to its nocturnal habits. It catches fish, amphibians and large aquatic invertebrates. After years of decline, it seems to be recovering.
For its part, the catfish is a freshwater fish, native to the large rivers of Central Europe. The image in which we see the catfish and the night heron is a screenshot from the video, which we can see below.
