In La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos we can see an illustrative image of the pleasure of cycling with the family along the Manresa irrigation canal, in the Bages region.
Let’s see a family taking a leisurely bike ride, one afternoon with the threat of rain, near the busy Parc de l’Agulla.
The irrigation canal is a canal that goes from Balsareny to the Agulla Park, in Manresa. Its construction began in 1339 and was completed in 1383. It is divided into two branches.
It is the medieval canal that has allowed the growth of Manresa and the agricultural development of a good part of Pla de Bages. Along its route it crosses forests, irrigated fields, wetlands, riverside forests, holm oak forests and oak groves of high scenic interest.
The path that borders its route, 26 kilometers long, is a pleasant walk and bike ride, exploring a natural environment transformed by water in the heart of Catalonia.
It is considered a capital work of medieval engineering, built by Guillem Catà and with a gradient of only 10 meters along its 26 kilometers. It allows you to see other hydraulic works, such as the Manresans Lock, the aqueducts or the mines.
