The Superior Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG) investigates the man arrested this Monday after having stolen a car with a two-year-old child inside, for the crime of sexual assault, after the minor appeared dressed differently than the clothes he was wearing before being kidnapped. The arrested person also faces the crimes of illegal detention, attempted robbery with force, theft of use of a vehicle, injuries, damages and driving without a license.

As police sources have informed the EFE agency, the accused has numerous criminal records. What’s more, that same Monday at noon, hours before stealing the vehicle with the minor inside, he left the Tui Court (Pontevedra) for having broken a restraining order on Sunday due to sexist violence.

For the moment, the Investigative Court number 3 of Tui has decreed that the detainee be provisionally imprisoned, notified and without bail. Mainly, this measure has been taken due to the risk of repeat crime, in addition to the seriousness of the penalties that could be imposed, which also increases the risk of being removed from the action of justice.

The accused, apart from being charged with attempted robbery with force or vehicle theft – among others – is also being investigated for the crime of sexual assault. And when the individual was arrested, the child was found wearing different clothes than the one he was wearing before he was taken away.

The events occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, when the arrested man took advantage of the fact that the baby’s mother was picking up her other son from school to steal the woman’s van, which had the keys in the ignition, in Tui. Upon returning, the minor’s mother saw that the vehicle was missing and she quickly reported it to the police, who initiated a large police operation in the municipality, as well as in the north of Portugal.

A couple of hours later,  a Local Police patrol from the town of Pontevedra located the driver and the baby a few kilometers from the school, in Veiga do Louro. After the rescue, the little boy was transferred to the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo to undergo a medical check-up.
