The limited-edition sneaker company that emerged in adolescence

For those who are not familiar with the world of limited edition sneaker sales, Newcop’s is a most curious story. When he was 16 years old, David Camprubí Buxeda began buying limited edition sneakers, both for his own use and to resell to shops. “He stood in long lines at brand stores to be among the first when they opened because they sold out as soon as they left,” he explains.

At the age of 20, in 2020, Camprubí’s ability to buy and sell this type of item together with the growth in demand led him to create Newcop. Through this company, the entrepreneur began to sell directly to the final consumer. “For people who are not in the world, it is very difficult to acquire limited edition shoes,” acknowledges the founder. In addition, stores like Newcop save shoppers from having to wait in long lines.

Newcop started with an online store, but since April 2022 it has a physical store in Barcelona, ??where the company is headquartered, and one in Madrid since December. Thanks to these openings, the founder plans to end 2023 with a turnover of six million euros (between April and December 2022 he had a turnover of 2.5 million).

Camprubí explains that he no longer queues at brand stores, but now buys from people who do the same thing he did in the beginning. Beyond these collaborators, Newcop employs eleven people. An important part of the staff’s job is to verify that the 1,500 pairs of shoes they buy each month are authentic. They are sneakers that belong to the brands Jordan, Nike, Yeezy, Adidas and New Balance.

The entrepreneur points out that there are no fixed prices, but that they go up and down depending on supply and demand: “There is a lot of speculation because sometimes you buy simply to wait for the price to rise and then sell for more.”
