The National Police has arrested “one of the most wanted fugitives in France,” according to a statement from the police force. The fugitive, who was in a bar in Salou, Tarragona, at the time of the arrest, had a European Arrest and Surrender Order in force, issued by this country. He faces a ten-year prison sentence for drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, crimes against public order and security, and membership in a criminal organization.
By order of Spain, the investigation began last year 2023 when it was learned of the escape of the leader of a criminal drug trafficking clan that operated in the main commercial points of Marseille and that, in addition, regularly exported cannabis from Spain, counting with a large arsenal of war weapons to carry out their activity.
The fugitive fled a police operation that took place in March in France and resulted in numerous arrests and searches. The detainee used up to four false identities and had a wide support network, which made it difficult to locate him.
Finally, police investigators were able to locate the fugitive in Tarragona, where it was learned that, sporadically, he met with family and friends who visited him from France.
