Ayat al Khadour has been one of the visible faces of Palestinian journalists covering what is happening in the Gaza Strip. During this time he has been reporting on Tel Aviv’s use of phosphorus and thermobaric bombs in Beit Lahia, north of the strip.

In this latest recording, he reported that the Israeli army had intensified the bombing of his city. Also the launching of leaflets requesting that the area be evacuated. People left their homes, desperately fleeing through the streets without knowing where they were going. Few people, like her, stayed in her house. Al Khadour emotionally recounted: “The situation is extremely frightening and what is happening is very difficult.”

According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Ayat died in his family home from shelling on Monday night. Journalist Alaa Taher al Hasanat also died in the same way in Gaza City.

The Government Media Office reported days earlier that 49 journalists had died as a result of Israel’s siege on Gaza. The Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders confirms the massacre, estimating the deaths between 39 and 41 professionals. The international association calls the war between Israel and Gaza the “deadliest conflict for media workers” since it was counted in 1992.
