From next July 1, it is possible that in the United States there will be chaos in air navigation. The reason is that the postponements are over and the 5G telephone system begins to work, which affects the altimeters of the planes and which requires in many of them modifications that the owner airlines had to introduce.
It has been the US Secretary of Transportation himself, Pete Buttigieg, who has explained that there may be some airline delays or cancellations if the last remaining passenger planes have not updated their altimeters to deal with 5G interference. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) argues that 5G C-band signals could interfere with radio wave emitters used by passenger planes to measure their distance from the ground, which pilots rely on. when they land in poor visibility.
The introduction of the new 5G network has caused most of the fleet of US national airlines to be updated and ready in recent months, with more than 80% of the aircraft upgraded. However, about 65% of the aircraft operating international flights still need to adapt.
The global group of airlines International Air Transport Association said that airlines would do everything possible to avoid interruptions and that they would therefore try to fit all their planes with the required altimeters. Air India, for example, announced that its entire fleet was already up to date and ready for the introduction of 5G.
Delta Air Lines and JetBlue, with 190 planes and 17 planes on the road, respectively, will not be fully ready by July 1. The Airlines for America trade association blamed problems in the global supply chain for difficulties meeting the deadline.

Full expansion of this band, which strikes a balance between low-band 5G and ultra-fast millimeter wave 5G, was initially halted until January 2022, but experienced further delays, first to July 5, 2022, and then to July 1, 2022. July of this year, the final date.
At the moment, the only flights that could face setbacks are those aboard aircraft that have not had 5G jamming equipment installed and would land in low visibility circumstances.
