Mustafa Maya, described by the National Police as “the largest jihadist recruiter in Europe”, returned to his old ways after spending eight years in prison. After being released, he resumed his contacts with people related to jihad with the aim of carrying out violent actions. Before he was arrested again last Monday by anti-terrorist agents, Maya used his social networks to publish explicit jihadist material. And in a context of escalating tension in the Middle East, the historic jihadist called to end the lives of Jews, according to sources close to the investigation explained to La Vanguardia.
Maya, a convert from Melilla of Belgian origin and stationed in a wheelchair, was arrested on Monday by agents from the General Information Commissariat. Just a year and a half after being released, on March 11, 2022, after serving a sentence for leading a cell dedicated to recruiting and sending fighters to conflict territories to join terrorist organizations such as the Islamic State or Al Qaeda. The network had branches in Morocco, Belgium, France, Tunisia, Turkey, Libya, Mali, Indonesia and Syria, among other countries, with the now once again detained man being the head of this network.
But the eight years in prison did not help Maya abandon her criminal postulates. Maya had a plan that involved using social networks to send the maximum number of radical messages, going so far as to create specific groups and channels of a terrorist nature. Maya, according to the same police sources, has recently dedicated herself to creating and editing jihadist content.
The preliminary analysis carried out by the agents of the General Information Commissioner’s Office of his Facebook profile has confirmed that he was using as a methodology the systematic sending of messages to a group of people that he had previously selected with the purpose of starting a relationship. with them.
Experts in the fight against terrorism have found among a multitude of messages with highly violent content some calls to end the lives of Jews. These messages have special relevance given that they occur at a time when the escalation of tension in the Gaza Strip is causing the call for “global jihad” by terrorist organizations in response to Israel’s actions. The Police have also found among the material of one of the mobile phones that they seized from Maya a speech by one of the leaders of Al-Qaeda related to the victory of the Muslims.
The second arrested last Monday in Fuenlabrada (Madrid), Deniz Ibryam, is also a repeat offender. In 2014 he was arrested as part of an anti-terrorist operation that resulted in nine detainees related to the self-named “Al-Andalus Brigade”, which financed, recruited, indoctrinated and sent fighters to join DAESH. Several of its members died fighting in Syria and Iraq against coalition forces in the ranks of the aforementioned terrorist organization.
After going before the judge of the National Court Joaquín Gadea, the investigator of the case has decreed the entry into provisional prison with notice and without bail of both, as the Prosecutor’s Office had requested.
