The heat wave is not 'fake'

Today it will be very hot. More than normal. The spokesperson for the Spanish Meteorological Agency assures today in La Vanguardia that this heat wave that is being experienced this weekend was something unprecedented in the past, but now it is already being something natural and that in the next decade it will reach 50º temperature in Spain. Nothing new under the sun (a topic that goes very well in this case) and confirms what we all already know, that climate change is causing this uncontrolled increase in temperatures. The situation is aggravated because precisely to avoid this suffocating heat, the popular reaction is to generate more pollution by consuming more refrigerated air and spending more water. It is the fish that bites the tail. The more heat, even more energy consumption and more pollution. Until a few decades ago, we knew how to live without air conditioners. At most, there were those who bought a fan. Today, on the other hand, the use of devices of all kinds to counteract high temperatures is something common in our lives.

A warmer world means changes in sea levels, more floodplains and disappearing beaches. What happens in Venice is no coincidence and with each passing day it is more exposed to being flooded by the sea. As usual, there are more droughts and floods that also bring problems to the crops. Desert areas are growing and crops have to adapt to this increase in temperatures.

We all know it and today ecological awareness is greater than ever. A recent study by the BBVA Foundation highlighted that Spaniards put the urgency of reducing the effects of climate change before economic growth. However, it is very difficult to do homework. To all. The fault is not only of the administrations and of the big companies. There is also the possibility of a small contribution from each of the citizens. I am writing this article on a Saturday afternoon when it is very hot but the air conditioning is off. Surely he would not have done so a few years ago. But today we have to adapt to what is coming. Neither the heat wave that invades us nor global warming is fake news. It is something serious.
