In the current context of climate emergency, it is more important than ever for companies to do their bit to optimize the use of resources and minimize their impact on the environment. This is the case of Familia Torres and its determined commitment to reusing glass bottles to reduce CO2 emissions associated with wine.

The involvement of the Catalan winery goes back a long way: from 2016 to 2020, it already participated in the first glass bottle reuse pilot in southern Europe (REWINE project) and is currently a member of REBO2VINO, the new reuse project in the sector. wine production on a national scale coordinated by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) and financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).

Together with González Byass, it is the only winery that is part of the operating group of this innovation project. Miguel A. Torres, president of Familia Torres, highlights that the reuse of glass bottles “is an excellent alternative for certain markets and types of wines to advance in the reduction of emissions, provided that a standard bottle format can be established, ideally at the European level.” After having managed to reduce as much as possible the weight of the bottles they use for their wines, he points out, this is the next step they are determined to take.

Since 2008, within the framework of its environmental program Torres

Last year, it put reusable bottles of its organic white wine Viña Sol (DO Catalunya) into circulation, in a pilot trial with restaurants as part of the REBO2VINO project that aims to evaluate the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of reusing glass compared to the conventional model. of recycling. The eight establishments participating in this trial are located in the Garraf and Alt Penedès regions and are La Caleta, Los Vikingos, Costa Daurada, Can Laury, La Oca, El Mascarón and Boccalino, all of them from Sitges, and Ca la Katy de Sant Martí Sarroca.
