The earthquake that devastated Morocco early Friday morning will take a prominent place on the list of tragedies caused by earthquakes. The shallow depth at which it occurred increased the destruction and has caused, for the moment, 2,012 fatalities and the injured amount to 2,059, of which 1,404 have a serious prognosis.

Of magnitude 7, it shook the northern region of Marrakech and occurred at 11:11 p.m. local time on Friday (10:11 p.m. GMT) at a depth of 8 kilometers. It had its epicenter in the town of Ighil, located about 80 kilometers southwest of the city of Marrakech.
