“Let’s be serious”, the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has demanded, after receiving the letter in which the deputy secretary of institutional action of the Popular Party, Esteban González Pons, summons him to meet to “overcome the blockade” of the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), which has already accumulated more than three years of delay.

“The PP letter is an attempt to appear, in the face of the gallery, that they want to renew. If they really wanted to renew, they can call me by phone and in one afternoon we will renew the General Council of the Judiciary”, Bolaños replied this Friday from Logroño.

The Minister of the Presidency has lamented that the eleven-page document sent by the PP in July, “to reinforce judicial independence”, and that González Pons reiterates in his new letter, is “full of excuses, red lines and conditions ”. “I respond to those eleven pages to Feijóo with three words: comply with the law,” Bolaños stressed. “Either you are with the rule of law or you are unsubmissive to compliance with the law and the Constitution”, has summoned the leader of the PP once again.

Bolaños himself has already lamented on too many occasions a blockade in the renewal of the CGPJ for which, “without false equidistances”, he holds the leader of the PP exclusively responsible, first during the mandate of Pablo Casado and, for five months, with Alberto Núñez Feijóo at the head of the main opposition party.

The minister has even denounced in recent days that the PP is now “instigating” the conservative sector of the CGPJ to block the pending appointments of magistrates of the Constitutional Court, which has yet to resolve issues such as the right-wing appeals against the abortion law or the law on euthanasia.

In Bolaños’ opinion, because the PP “wants the Judiciary to be controlled by people who are related to it.” “The PP wants to maintain a majority in the courts that do not give it the polls,” Bolaños has criticized on numerous occasions before the “obstructionist strategy” that he blames on the main opposition party for more than three years.
