The Tourist Apartment Association (ATA) in the Girona regions has asked the City Council of Cadaqués to revoke the regulation of Housing for Tourist Use (VUT) provided for in the Special Urban Plan.

For the moment, the employer has already presented allegations to the initial approval of this point and considers it a limiting and exclusion plan for the VUT.

The Girona association states in a statement that the regulations do not seek to regulate a situation but to “prohibit” these establishments in a large part of the municipality. The allegations presented criticize the lack of participation of the businessmen affected.

The ATA ensures that the document does not show that the activity of the tourist apartments causes negative repercussions for the municipality that must be redirected and for this reason they ask the council to reconsider its approval.

On the other hand, the allegations also denounce that in the memory of the plan there are elements that do not conform to reality, such as the priority of favoring the right to housing or avoiding coexistence problems.

Tourist entrepreneurs believe that the problem of homelessness in Cadaqués cannot fall exclusively on tourist apartments.

On the other hand, in the special plan there is no justification for the problems that the HUTs cause in the neighborhood coexistence of the Empordà people. Nor is any registered incident detailed or reconciled.

For this reason, the ATA believes that any tourist can generate noise and consume environmental resources regardless of whether they are staying in an apartment, a hotel or a campsite.

Regarding possible mobility problems, the tourist apartment businessmen believe that it is a generalized conflict and not caused by their businesses.

Finally, the association underlines the contradiction that appears in the document when, on the one hand, it speaks of the pressure on the environment by the sector; and, on the other, it is said that the activity does not affect the environment and, therefore, a specific report in this area is not necessary.
