The Generalitat will urgently repair the promenade of Fenals, affected by the storms

The Generalitat will urgently repair the Fenals promenade, in Lloret de Mar, affected by the recent storms that have hit the Costa Brava. The works will involve an investment of 1.8 million euros.

The public company Infrestructures.cat will be in charge of bidding and awarding the works, which will be completed in about two months from when they begin. The idea of ??the Territori department is to interfere as little as possible in the high bathing season.

The last two sea storms that have hit the Costa Brava since last March caused significant damage to a large part of the south-west stretch of the Fenals beach promenade.

The strong waves caused a section of about 100 meters of the promenade to sink and other nearby sections to be affected, which could also end up collapsing. The collapse left cables and pipes exposed.

The Department of Territory understands that the current situation of this section represents “a risk for people’s safety.” Although the City Council has prohibited passage in the area through barriers and signage, the affected section is the continuation of another that is preserved in good condition on a beach that receives many bathers. “There is a risk of people accessing the damaged part, with the consequent danger.”

Territori will replace 250 linear meters of retaining wall to repair the sunken section of promenade as well as the adjoining areas. The affected public services, such as sewage, lighting and drinking water services, will also be replaced. In addition, sand will be provided to cover the protection of the breakwater.
