The former director of Ecological Transition dismisses the Compromís renewable plan as barbaric

The until today director general of Ecological Transition, Pedro Fresco, whose dismissal has already been made effective in the plenary session of the Consell this morning, has harshly censured the renewables model of his party. “It’s outrageous”, an “unscientific” position to finish it off with a very Valencian word “un desgavell”, which would translate as disaster.

In statements to Les Notícies del Matí de À Punt, Fresco has indicated that he was clear that he was going to be fired for weeks and that in fact he had the resignation letter prepared. Yesterday, by phone, they told him the decision.

Until today, the director general has indicated that the current position of the Ministry chaired by Isaura Navarro is “unaffordable for a technician.” He has emphasized that his party’s plan to cover the terraces with photovoltaic panels is “unfeasible” and that it will not reach the expected goal of generating 6,000 megawatts before 2030. He admits that the self-consumption proposed by his party is “necessary” but “insufficient”.

For their part, from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition they respond that the dismissal of Fresco responds to a question of “management and efficiency”. As they explain, of the 17,800 applications for self-consumption (the commitment of Compromís) that have been received in 2022, only 1,800 have been initiated and 29 have been approved.

For this reason, they want to give a “new impetus to management” with the signing of Enric Juan Alcocer, until now general director of Social Services Infrastructures of the vice-presidency directed by Aitana Mas.

For his part, in his statements to public television, Fresco has insisted that the deployment of renewable energies “is a tsunami that no one can stop” and that if we do not undertake it we would become “a third world society”. In addition, he has stressed that if the small and medium-sized ones that are being proposed are not approved, macro-plants that they want to avoid will be made.

On the implementation of these energy sources in our territory, he pointed out that, compared to other autonomies, the Valencian Community is doing “very badly”. And he has admitted that it has to begin to be clear that “the landscape is going to change. The question is that the condition is as minimal as possible and that the level of acceptance by society is maximized”.
