The Guild of Florists of Catalonia claims an Endreça Plan to fight against professional intrusion in the sale of roses during Sant Jordi’s Day.
According to the data provided by the corporation, it is estimated that between 1,500 and 1,700 stops have permission from the City Council, but they do not belong to the professional union. In addition, between 1,500 and 2,000 stops have been detected that do not have any authorization. The fight between the different positions estimates losses of more than ten million euros.
This trend of coexistence between professional and unauthorized positions has been experienced for years. The union’s complaints about the risk to mobility were already known to the authorities. Some stops are located a few meters from the professional ones, which encourages intrusion.
This year a specific plan has been created to fight against intrusion that has not been completed. The City Council recognizes that it is a difficult problem to avoid, which does not affect rose stalls so much, but also affects street sales.
For the florists’ union, Sant Jordi’s Day is the most important festival of the year, where they expect to sell around seven million roses.
