It will be necessary to admit that the strategists of the Popular Party are audacious. As the days go by, the idea that the PSOE is to blame for the fact that the PP has ended up closing agreements with the ultranationalists of Vox is the PSOE for not accepting its proposal to hand over the keys, is forging in published opinion – the public opinion, we’ll see. from the government to the most voted list.

Just yesterday, the brand new president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón supported this idea in the debate on his investiture. The culprit that the president of the Corts -the second authority of the community- or also its new Minister of Culture, are militants of the extreme right is… the socialist Ximo Puig who graciously refused to cede the presidency of the government to the winner of the elections.

The idea is ingenious in tactical terms, although it must be said that it turns the rules of parliamentary democracy into a caricature. But, unless the socialist party goes crazy – which cannot be ruled out – it seems unlikely that this formula will occur anywhere.

Basically for two reasons. The first is that for this offer to be minimally solvent, the proponent should be very careful not to do the opposite of what he can do. For example in Extremadura, where the PSOE was the force with the most votes and today Vox and PP govern. Or in the Canary Islands where, once again, the Socialists were the force with the most votes and since this week the Canarian nationalists govern with the support of the PP.

Secondly, because perhaps few already remember the consequences of what happened in 2016 when the PSOE facilitated the government for Mariano Rajoy with its abstention. The result was that the party almost went into electoral cardiac arrest while Podemos became an emerging force.

That lesson is already learned. The question to be asked is whether the conservatives in this country have reached the point of wanting the extinction of the socialist party. In Greece and Italy it has already happened. You judge the result.
