The eviction of the Bonanova squats results in 7 detainees and no serious incidents

The device to evict the occupied houses of Bonanova, baptized as the Kubo and the Ruïna, has been smoother than expected. After some tension began with shots fired at the police, the situation has calmed down and the Mossos have been able to expel the occupants after five hours of operation. The police have arrested the seven occupants who were inside the two buildings and who received the Mossos with objects and liquid. They are charged with the crimes of resistance, disobedience and attack on authority.

That has been the moment of greatest tension. At 5:30 in the morning, a hundred people left from Vallcarca to the Plaza de la Bonanova to protest the eviction without causing major incidents.

The occupants of the two houses have received the Mossos with throwing liquid and firecrackers. Specifically, they have thrown bags of rubble, cans of smoke, steel balls and flares to make intervention difficult, and they have even emptied a fire extinguisher towards where the police were and threw paint at them. To protect themselves from the impacts, the Mossos have used a cage for the first time with which they have accessed the property.

After the police declared the two blocks under control, the agents began to evict the squatters, although until the last moment three young people remained on the terrace of La Ruïna, while another spent hours hanging from the outside of El Kubo with a rope, which has required the intervention of mountain troops from the Mossos and Firefighters, with an articulated hydraulic ladder.

Finally, police officers have evicted these three squatters with harnesses, who have not put up any resistance. Shortly afterwards, the Mossos also removed the young man who remained hanging outside El Kubo with the same hydraulic ladder used by the firefighters, thus concluding the eviction of these two properties.

Once the eviction was completed, both buildings were inspected before returning them to the property, Sareb, which has already announced that it will reinforce surveillance in both houses to prevent them from being squatted again. In recent weeks, the Mossos have maintained contacts with the property to guarantee that the squatters did not re-enter once evicted. The entrances will be shielded and private security guards will guard the doors of both properties.

Since 2016, itinerant groups of ‘squatters’ have lived in El Kubo and La Ruïna, who had called for a demonstration with the slogan ‘Let’s resist the eviction’ at 5:30 a.m. on a plot of land on Farigola Street, next to the Vallcarca Metro station. , from where more than a hundred people have later traveled to La Bonanova.

The Mossos expected to find more people inside the building but in the end the physical impediments were greater. “It has been a success,” congratulated the chief commissioner of Barcelona, ??Montse Estruch. For this operation today, the Mossos have activated the Mobile Brigade Area, the Citizen Security Unit of the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi police station, the Drone Unit, the Mountain, Canine and Underground Unit, as well as the services regional police, which was later joined by a helicopter. The device has been coordinated from the CECOR on Bolivia Street with the presence of the top commanders of the body, who have followed the operation live with the images provided by the drones.

In the middle of the morning, the Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, the director general of the Police, Pere Ferrer, and the chief commissioner of the Mossos, Eduard Sallent, have come to the area to congratulate the agents who have been part of the device of eviction of the two buildings. “Thank you to the agents of the police who have made possible the eviction of El Kubo and the Rüina successfully and without remarkable incidents. Thank you!”, wrote the councilor on social networks
