The Valencia City Council has taken advantage of the six-month extension, approved by Royal Decree-Law of the Government of Spain, to subsidize 30% of public transport season tickets, and will co-finance this aid up to 50%, so that the Company Municipal de Transportes (EMT) maintains during the next semester the price of different multi-trip tickets reduced by half. Specifically, the consistory will allocate 880,000 euros to lower the price of trips with the EMT.
This was announced today by the mayoress of Valencia, María José Catalá, who stressed that among the objectives of this measure are “to alleviate family economies, to promote public transport and to guarantee the mobility of all citizens ”.
Catalá explained that the Local Government Board will approve tomorrow the adherence to the extension of “this agreement that the Council of Ministers agreed to with an electoral nature and with an expiration date immediately after the local elections are held.” “The local executive has not overlooked the fact that the state discounts for public transport were running out and they have been working on this issue for days with the real intention of addressing the need and vulnerability of Valencian families and not to seek votes”, has affirmed. “Likewise -he added- we are working to maintain free public transport for youth, a measure that we will undoubtedly promote together with the government of the Generalitat”.
The agreement of the Governing Board tomorrow will give continuity to the aid for public transport that expired on June 30 and will be in force between July 1 and December 31. During this period, EMT users will be able to purchase the ten-trip bus pass for 4.25 euros, compared to the usual price of 8.50 euros. The personalized ten-trip pass (for large families and single parents) in the general category will go from 6.80 to 3.40 euros, and the special category from 4.25 to 2.15 euros.
All these titles can be obtained until December 31 at the usual points of sale of the EMT. In the case of the bus pass, in tobacconists, kiosks, web, app and citizen service offices (OAC). Personalized bus passes and EMT Jove can also be obtained virtually in the APP and official website of the EMT and in person at the OACs (Calle de Mendoza, Colón Metro station and the Polytechnic University of Valencia).
