The arrival of the cold drop or DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) in Spain has wreaked havoc in various areas of Spain. In some, such as Catalonia, it has caused serious complications, where Civil Protection has requested this morning the confinement of the municipality of Alcanar, in the MontsiĆ  region (Tarragona), due to the accumulation of rain and the risk of flooding due to overflow of ravines.

In those locations, in just 24 hours nearly 220 liters per square meter have fallen, most of them concentrated in just three hours.

Trains, highways and various infrastructures have been affected, destroyed or closed to traffic due to the virulence of the rain and the large accumulations of water that have been caused, which have come to generate rivers in the streets and lakes in the squares.

Also in Navarra, DANA left very abundant rains between Friday and Saturday. In the Pamplona region, it caused one of the largest water episodes since records existed, taking into account that in less than 24 hours between 100 and 120 liters per square meter accumulated.

According to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), this Friday, in just over two hours, 62 liters were recorded in Pamplona with “unprecedented” electrical activity.

The downpours also affected the Valencian Community, both during the day on Saturday and in the early hours of this Sunday, where the intensity has grown to cause severe damage.

Throughout the hours, the AEMET has transferred the highest level red alert for heavy rains to Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid, where the presidents of the communities and the mayors of various towns have requested the confinement of citizens due to the rainfall forecast that would exceed records.
