A joint investigative work between La Vanguardia and Eldiario.es has revealed how Mariano Rajoy’s government used the Police leadership, led by Jorge Fernández Díaz, to investigate independence parties outside the law and orchestrate campaigns against the process .
The journalistic investigation, plus the testimonies of sources involved in the events, indicate that a good part of the reports reached the former Minister of the Interior’s desk that later gave rise to various maneuvers to discredit or open legal cases against people supposedly linked to the Catalan independence movement.
