The work to demolish the wall on Eduard Maristany Street in the Tres Xemeneies section will begin at the beginning of February with the preliminary tasks that must be carried out before the demolition. The first steps of the project, by the Badalona City Council (Barcelonès Nord) through the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, will involve the movement of earth and the demolition of an internal wall. Subsequently, at the end of February, the external wall will be demolished and this section of Eduard Maristany Street will be expanded and remodeled. In total, the works will last five months.
This project affects approximately 4,000 m2 of surface and has a budget of 1,142,818 euros. The reform will mean a radical change for the environment and will end the security and mobility problems caused by the wall. The action will allow the widening of the street, which will go from 9 to 21 meters wide and will have enough space for vehicles, pedestrians and a bicycle lane. It is worth remembering that currently in this place a traffic light gives alternative passage to each of the directions of travel, since the width of the road does not allow circulation in both directions.
On the other hand, the project will also involve the modernization of services, such as lighting, sewage (with new drains and a new collector), sidewalks, new trees and increased vegetation, signage and pavement. At the same time, the work will also make possible the continuity of the cycle path to Sant Adrià de Besòs and Barcelona and the creation of space for parking.
The mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, has highlighted that it is a project “long awaited and demanded by the residents of the area and that it represents a total transformation of the environment.” “The remodeling, which will finally be a reality, will mean improving security, creating a space that will have much more light and optimal organization of both traffic and pedestrian and bicycle space,” he explained.
Next Wednesday, April 19, is the scheduled date to start the demolition work on the wall of the Tres Chimeneas enclosure on Calle Eduard Maristany between Badalona and Sant Adrià de Besòs (Barcelonès North). The work will have a cost of 720,000 euros and it is expected that it will end in mid-September.
178 meters of the wall will be demolished, of which 158 meters are in the municipality of Badalona and another smaller one will be built 14 meters from the street, which will allow for the new sidewalks, the bike lane and the new tree-lined area.
With the start of the work, which accumulates a delay of 20 months, the agreement between the town councils of Badalona and Sant Adrià de Besòs materializes with the company Front Litoral, the temporary union of Endesa and Metrovacesa to promote the Tres Chimeneas project .
