The first edition of the Costa Brava Diving Fest has closed with 350 participants and more than 70 kilos of waste collected in the joint dive that took place on Sunday at different points on the Costa Brava.

The weekend dedicated to sustainable diving has satisfied the organization due to the influx of people, especially in the workshops that have been prepared and that have filled capacity in many cases.

The event was promoted by the Association of Underwater Tourist Centers Costa Brava Sub and co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), through the Local Fisheries Action Group (GALP) of the Costa Brava, and highlighted the seabed conservation projects, sustainability and citizen participation.

Another of the most anticipated activities was the screening of the documentary El Submarino Ictineo 3: from the idea-concept to the depths of 1,000 meters, which was attended by representatives of the project. Afterwards, a conference was held to talk about the topic with different experts.

On Sunday the joint cleaning was carried out in different points of the Costa Brava. More than 70 kilos of waste were collected in total. An amount that could be seen higher, but adverse weather conditions prevented all the planned dives from taking place.

In parallel, during the three days of the event, it was possible to visit an exhibition of large-format posters in the open air simultaneously in three venues. It consisted of images representing a range of projects that link study activities, restoration of the sea and marine conservation with the participation of the divers themselves.

Many of these projects are led by small environmental entities or by dive center initiatives that simply seek to leave a positive footprint on the seabed.

Activities were scheduled in the Espai Medes de l’Estartit, the fishermen’s houses of Catifa in Palamós and in the divers unloading dock in Tossa de Mar. An underwater photography contest was also held.
