The start of new works in Vallès Occidental grew by 15% in 2023 compared to last year. This is clear from the data made public by the APCE (Association of Building Developers and Constructors), which indicates that 2,409 apartments and houses were started in the region while the previous year there were 2,087.
The evolution of new construction is also positive in Baix Llobregat, with an increase of 10%: 2,714 homes were started compared to 2,474 a year ago. The other side of the metropolitan regions is in Vallès Oriental (-12%) and Maresme (-19%). In the first case, 968 new homes went from 853 to being started, while in Maresme 1,127 had been started and in the last year there were 909.
In the case of Barcelona – with data highly influenced by the behavior of Barcelona as the Catalan capital – the start of new homes fell by 53%, going from 3,961 apartments and houses started in 2022 to 1,867 during the last year.
Regarding the rest of the metropolitan capitals, the data indicate a decline in the start of new homes when compared to recent years. In Mataró it fell 20%, in Terrassa it fell 19% and in Sabadell, 15%. In the case of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, the decrease was 6%, while Granollers remained practically the same as a year ago (1%).
If we analyze the list of cities in the Barcelona district where the most homes were started last year, Terrassa and Sabadell are in the top 3, just behind Barcelona, ??which heads the list by far.
