Jordi Cervelló is seriously hospitalized in Figueres due to complications derived from pneumonia. The Barcelona composer, 86, was spending the summer in the Empordà when he was admitted to the health center five days ago after several hospital visits.

Lucid and active until the last moment, the artist from Barcelona dedicated this month of August to revising a work for orchestra that his publisher is about to publish. He is currently in a state of full sedation. This October he would be 87 years old.

Sensitive, versatile and prolific composer, he is the author of a work that flees from the imperative of atonality and the twelve-tone tone of his time. One of his last premieres took place at L’ Auditori, during the pandemic, when his piece Les càrregues a l’ 1 d’ octubre came to light, a symphonic work in which he describes the police repression experienced on the historic day Catalan. “I don’t claim anything, just having let off steam and getting rid of the bad milk I’ve been suffering,” he said.
