The commission that investigates in the Congress of Deputies emergency contracts for the purchase of medical supplies in a pandemic has summoned the president of the Balearic Islands, the popular Marga Prohens, on May 27, and on June 10, it will question the current Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, in his capacity as former president of the Canary Islands.
This was decided this Monday by the Commission’s Board – where the PSOE and Sumar have a majority -, opting to continue the investigation into the Balearic side of the Koldo case to, after the European ones, begin investigations into the hiring by the previous Canarian government of the company linked to this alleged bribery plot for which, among others, the former advisor to the Ministry of Transport Koldo García Izaguirre is being investigated.
In this way, as detailed by the president of the commission, the socialist Alejandro Soler Mur, next Monday the appearances will start in the morning with that of the current director of the Balearic Health Service, Javier Ureña. In the afternoon session, the Minister of the Presidency and Public Administrations, Antonia María Estalleras, will attend, and at six in the afternoon Prohens will do so, whose statement the PSOE will try to contrast with the one made last week with the former Balearic president, and current president of Congress, Francina Armengol.
More specifically in relation to the possible desire of Prohens not to resort in a timely manner – favoring, in practice, its expiration – the defective medical equipment purchased by the Armengol administration from the company Soluciones de Gestión located in the epicenter of the alleged corrupt plot.
All of them will be questioned about the claim file presented against Soluciones de Gestión by the Balearic Executive. The previous government initiated a procedure to claim 2.6 million of the 3.7 million it paid for its masks from the company in the Koldo scheme after having received material of inferior quality to the one they bought, but now the ‘popular’ Executive has presented a new claim for all the money paid in 2020.
Already on June 10, the day after the European elections, the Congressional commission will focus on the case of the Canary Islands, listening first to the former vice-counselor of the Presidency Antonio Olivera and then to the former regional president. The Government of Ángel Víctor Torres awarded Management Solutions four contracts for 12.3 million euros.
But, in addition, the European Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the contracts Canarias closed with the company RR7 United worth 4 million euros for the acquisition of one million masks. At the beginning of this month the Judicial Police searched the headquarters of the Canarian Health Service in search of documentation regarding this case.
On the other hand, the president of the commission has reported that after the appearances next Monday, this body will meet behind closed doors to analyze a request registered with the PP with the aim of excluding them from the documentation requests approved by the commission a total of 174 applications.
Last week, the commission already agreed to remove more than 40 requests from its initial list, the vast majority of which dealt with companies linked to the father, mother, brother and boyfriend of the president of the community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
These requests were suppressed at the proposal of the legal services of Congress, which warned that they had no relationship with the object of the investigation, that is, contracts for the purchase of medical supplies during a pandemic.
But later, the PP demanded that another 174 requests be excluded from the initial list approved by the PSOE and its partners. As explained by Soler, after reviewing the PP proposal, the lawyers have concluded that two of those 174 documents were already eliminated in last week’s screening and that another six requests made to the Andalusian Government, related to contracting, could be deleted. of personnel by the Government of the popular Juanma Moreno.
