The 50th Conde de Godó Trophy did not have an easy debut for the 23 ORC A Dos boats. The DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) or cold drop that passed yesterday along the Catalan coast, with rain and little wind, marked the coastal test. The Race Committee had up to six routes planned depending on the weather conditions, and finally the northern option was chosen with a 100-mile route departing from Barcelona to Palamós, with an obligatory passage through La Llosa located at the exit of the bay and return to Barcelona.
The fleet left early in the afternoon with rain and a very shifty wind of just seven knots. In passing through the unmarking buoy, still located off the Barcelona coast, Inés RodrÃguez’s Duende, winner of the last edition in the mixed category, arrived first in real time.
During the first part of the route, and with the fleet sailing off the Maresme coast, Duende and Tito Moure’s Smerit held an interesting duel for the top of the table up to El BalÃs. From then on, Moure’s ship managed to stand out as they approached Blanes, in waters they know well, still sailing by day towards Palamós, where the fleet was expected late at night and where the danger of lurked.
J70 and female candle
The Barcelona RCN has been betting on real-time classes for years. In Conde de Godó the J70 monotypes have their preferred place. There will be two categories: the J70 class, with boats such as Noticia by Luis MartÃn Cabiedes, Tenaz by Marc de Antonio or ClÃnicas W by Ricardo Terrades; and women’s sailing with Núria Sánchez Nomdedeu’s Dorsia Covirán and two-time Olympic medalist Natà lia Via-Dufresne with MarÃa Bover’s Team RCNP-Baleà ria, the last two winning teams of the Copa del Rey.
Today, starting at 3:00 p.m., they start with the rest of the ORC.
