The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard is investigating a nautical company in the port of Roses for dumping and storing toxic and polluting products in an “uncontrolled manner.”
The agents discovered inside the company, areas in which water mixed with different toxic products accumulated and detected that the filtering system had been disabled, so that the contaminated water passed directly to the sea.
In addition, they found large capacity drums with remains of used oils, greases and fuels without any type of control to prevent leaks. The Civil Guard assures that if they had not acted in time, the spills could have affected nearby bathing areas.
Seprona agents took samples of the water that were sent to the Barcelona Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences for analysis. The analysis showed high concentrations of hydrocarbons and heavy metals.
The agents are investigating the company as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against natural resources and the environment. Seprona reminds us that Roses is located in the Natura 2000 Network, a protected area not only at the local level but also at the European level.
Sources from the Roses City Council indicate that they became aware of this illicit activity last February, when the territorial services of the Interior Department of the Generalitat in Girona informed them of the proceedings opened by the Mossos d’Esquadra that accredited waste dumping into the sea. in a nautical port.
