The processing of the amnesty law in the Congress of Deputies has not significantly changed the distance between PP and PSOE, leaving the Popular Party as winners of hypothetical elections with 33.2% of the votes compared to 31.8% of the socialists. Behind it, the notable decline of Vox stands out, which falls from 10% to 8.5%, while Sumar consolidates itself as the third force, repeating the 11.8% it obtained in November.

This is reflected, at least, in the December barometer of the Sociological Research Center (CIS) – the first after the inauguration of Pedro Sánchez and the composition of the new coalition Government – ??and which is based on interviews carried out around the Day of the Constitution and the official break between Podemos and Sumar.

The distance that the organization led by the controversial José Félix Tezanos grants to the PP is 1.4 points. Lower than what the barometer showed in November (2.6) in a context marked then by the investiture negotiations between the PSOE and the group of nationalist parties.

40% of those surveyed in the latest barometer from the Center for Sociological Research consider the demonstrations that have been held over the last few months in front of the headquarters of the socialist party against the amnesty and the agreements of the PSOE with the independentists to be justifiable. On the contrary, 47% understand that the Government’s initiative does not justify the attitude of those who protested.

The CIS does not directly ask those interviewed what they think of the amnesty law and limits itself to finding out how many claim to have read the text of the law – 11% – and to evaluating the demonstrations. Among this small group, the number of people who consider the demonstrations justified amounts to 43%.

Regarding the now classic evaluation of politicians, according to the December sample, Pedro Sánchez obtains an average of 4.2. Alberto Núñez Feijóo is a few tenths behind with a 4.14. She is followed by Yolanda Díaz, who continues to be the most valued despite the fact that, like the rest of the political representatives, she fails with a 4.4, and Santiago Abascal who must settle for the 2.7 assigned to him by the sample.

The public institute directed by José Félix Tezanos carries out this type of monthly surveys, collecting data from some 4,000 telephone interviews carried out in the first ten days of each month.

In the case of December, the field work was carried out in the days surrounding the different institutional events that were organized on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the 1978 Constitution, both in Congress and in different autonomous communities. Precisely on the eve of December 6, Podemos announced the decision to break with Yolanda Díaz’s Sumar project and join the mixed group of Congress.
