The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has forecast that this summer 95 million long-distance journeys will be made in Spain. To complete these routes, as well as others of lesser scope, most drivers will have to refuel their vehicle on more than one occasion. Choosing the right service station where the fuel tank will be filled can mean good savings for your pocket.
Although the difference in prices per liter may seem small, it ends up being noticeable in the final bill. For example, if we have to refuel a 60-liter tank with 98 gasoline, it will cost us 98.4 euros in an establishment that sells a liter for 1.64 euros; and we will have to pay 87 euros in one that markets it at 1.45 euros. The difference for the same amount is 11.4 euros.
Given these differences in rates, the OCU has drawn up a list of the cheapest gas stations on the main holiday routes in Spain. Next, we present the selection made by this consumer organization.
Those who have any doubts about the quality of the fuel served at the cheapest gas stations should point out that they should not worry, since all that is sold in our country is produced in some eight refineries that treat imported oil in an identical way. The most advantageous prices offered by low cost establishments respond to the fact that they save on other aspects, such as hiring staff or their location.
Beyond choosing the cheapest gas stations, another way to save on fuel is to drive efficiently, that is, you have to drive smoothly, avoiding acceleration.
Gears play an important role in reducing fuel consumption. For example, using the long ones without the vehicle stalling is an option. Also let the vehicle roll with the gear engaged during decelerations.
On the contrary, it is not recommended to go down the slopes in neutral. In this way, you run the risk of losing control of the vehicle. What can be done is take your foot off the accelerator.
In addition, maintaining a constant speed or having the vehicle well-maintained and well-maintained helps to save gasoline or diesel. On vacation, you have to be careful not to overfill your car: consumption increases by 5% for every 100 kilos.
