The Catalan video game sector invoices half of the Spanish total and has formulated forecasts for this 2023 of 900 million. But as the sector is constantly growing, the expected turnover figure for 2025 stands at 1,200 million euros.

These data are collected in the White Book of the Catalan industry of videojoc 2022, which has been published by the Generalitat de Catalunya with the collaboration of Desarrollo Español de Videojuegos. The Minister of Culture, Natàlia Garriga, stressed that it is “a strategic ecosystem” and that everything suggests that the sector “will grow very strongly” in the coming years.

The Department of Culture has launched the Videojocscatalans.cat website, the first portal that brings together all the content, information and resources for the videogame ecosystem in Catalonia, one of the actions contemplated by the Taula del Videojoc.

The white paper also reports the turnover figure for 2021, which stood at 660 million, which was 25% more than the previous year. The number of professionals dedicated to the video game sector also grew by 7%, up to 4,249 people, 92% of whom are under 45 years of age.

However, the sector only has a 25% presence of women in the workforce. Catalonia concentrates 26% of the companies, 53% of the turnover and 48% of the jobs in the sector.
