The Catalan startup Algoritcom launches its platform in the metaverse

Until now there has been a lot of talk about the metaverse, in the absence of specific investment projects being developed. Well, the Catalan startup Algoritcom is presenting its platform in this virtual reality these days after obtaining financing of 3.2 million euros from a Saudi private investor residing in the Principality of Monaco. But what exactly does it consist of?

Its young founding partners, some of them with previous experience in electronic commerce and the blockchain world (Joan Sánchez, Alberto Quiñonero, Raúl Pérez, Nicolás Benhamou and Oriol Carbonell) start from the assumption that the gateway to this technology, a computer world parallel, is still somewhat diffuse. So they propose to “democratize” access, through an application for mobile phones, tablets or from the PC or virtual glasses so that everything is within reach of a single key, so to speak.

There, users will find a virtual city (as if it were a video game) where, with their avatar, they will be able to make their purchases in a marketplace style (both in the physical and virtual world). Although large companies are already programming their virtual shopping spaces, Algoritcom wants to group several brands in this single space, through an offer of subscription plans, while access would remain free for users. As planned, in this city it will also be possible to play games, use it as a social network and in the future go to concerts or study training courses.

The platform, which will increase the workforce to a total of 30 workers, will debut on the occasion of Mobile in Barcelona in February. The goal is to achieve 30,000 users in its first month and a turnover of 500,000 euros by 2024. According to the consulting firm Mckinsey, the metaverse has a potential business of 5 billion dollars until 2030.
