Fourteen people were injured yesterday in a bus accident in Esplugues de Llobregat. One of the injured was transferred in critical condition to the Bellvitge hospital, another had a serious prognosis and was referred to Moisès Broggi, while six were less serious and were treated in various hospital centers and another six were slightly injured, reported the Emergency System. Medical Emergencies (SEM). Everything indicates that an indisposition of the driver, 56 years old and who was one of the most important victims, was the cause of the event.

Sources from the works council confirmed that the worker had started his workday about 15 minutes before the accident. According to these same sources, he communicated internally that he “was unwell.” Then the protocol was activated to “send an ambulance and a replacement.” Communication was lost and moments later the accident was reported. “It had to be a loss of knowledge or something like that,” they added. In the vehicle on line L10, which goes from El Prat to Sant Feliu de Llobregat passing through l’Hospitalet and Cornellà, there were about 25 people traveling, some of them minors. Several came out bloody.

The Bombers received the warning at 1:49 p.m., when the bus operated by Rosanbus and owned by the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) rushed to the works of the new urban development of Montesa, right where the municipal areas of Esplugues and Cornellà merge and Now apartments and a medical center are being built. Among the construction workers, however, no injuries were reported.

Loli was waiting for another bus going in the opposite direction a few meters from the accident: “It stopped at a stop about 100 meters before. “Then I was driving slowly and the accident happened,” said this neighbor, who quickly arrived to treat some of the injured. The exact stop she was referring to is on a one-way street and staying there was completely blocking traffic. A few meters further, where the incident occurred, Sant Ildefons Avenue now has two lanes in each direction. “Two weeks ago the workers were working right where it fell,” Loli added.

Héctor lives in the Sant Ildefons neighborhood, right next door. “This work seems to be cursed,” he lamented, remembering the death of a worker in a work accident a few months ago. Pepe, also a neighbor, testified that the accident could have been worse: “The bus has fallen a few meters, but the hole is bigger and it could have reached further down,” he said. Cranes towed the bus hours later and in the late afternoon it was removed from the road.
